I create unique hand-made pieces of jewelry that are ready for the beach.  As a Florida-based artist, scuba-diver, treasure-hunter and jewelry-designer, I've created jewelry that endures an active life-style that includes plenty of salt water.  My bone carving references traditional tribal fishhook patterns of the South Pacific, whales, sharks, sea horses and sea creatures both real and imagined.   All my materials are selected for the beach and the sea. I also create free-form cabochon pieces and sell rough stone.

Beach Cut Jim studying sharks

Visiting Miami is always interesting, but this trip took me to the Frost Science Museum. They have an aquarium that ascends three floors and is spectacular. One of the reasons the aquarium is so inspiring is that it gives you an opportunity to observe sharks in clear deep water from the top, side and from below.

As an artist, the chance to study these magnificent creatures in motion was just thrilling. I spent a long time watching and photographing the sharks and rays as they glided past the observation areas.

Some of the photos will be very helpful as I create my new shark carvings. I’m already looking forward to another trip across the Everglades so I can stand beneath the Oculus. That spot makes you feel as if you are standing on the floor of the ocean with perfect vision. I recommend you visit if you can.
