What's a Manaia?
James Monaco
A Manaia (pronounced man-eye) is a spirit creature.
The Manaia has three fingers thought to represent the earth, sky and sea but also birth, life and death as well as the holy trinity.
The Manaia has the head of a bird, the body of a man, the tail of a fish and a unique hand that has only three fingers.
Manaia have been worn for centuries by people of the South Pacific to provide protection on the sea and foster good luck and a plentiful catch.
